Call to Worship: Open My Eyes, Lord

Responsive Reading: 1 John 1:1-2:2

1We declare to you what was from the beginning,
what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes,
what we have looked at and touched with our hands,
concerning the word of life–

2this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it,
and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us–

3we declare to you what we have seen and heard
so that you also may have fellowship with us;
and truly our fellowship is
with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
5This is the message we have heard from him
and proclaim to you,
that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.

6If we say that we have fellowship with him
while we are walking in darkness,
we lie and do not do what is true;

7but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

8If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9If we confess our sins,
he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins
and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10If we say that we have not sinned,
we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

2:1My little children, I am writing these things to you
so that you may not sin.
But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

2and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins,
and not for ours only
but also for the sins of the whole world.

Praise the Lord

Opening Hymn: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling…No.384 (1-4)

Verse 1

Love divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heaven to earth come down;
fix in us thy humble dwelling,
all thy faithful mercies crown!
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
pure un-bounded love thou art;
visit us with thy salvation,
enter every trembling heart.

Verse 2

Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit
into every troubled breast!
Let us all in thee inherit; let us find that second rest.
Take away our bent to sinning; Alpha and Omega be;
end of faith as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.

Verse 3

Come, Almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive;
suddenly return and never, nevermore thy temples leave.
Then we would be always blessing,
serve thee as thy hosts above,
pray and praise thee without ceasing,
glory in thy perfect love.

Verse 4

Finish, then, thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be.
Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee;
changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before thee,
lost in wonder, love and praise.

Affirmation of Faith:
The Apostle’s Creed..No. 881

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified,
dead,
and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge
the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Gloria Patri…Page 70

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.

Praise Song: Here I Am to Worship (D)

Light of the world You stepped down into darkness,
Opened my eyes, let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that
You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

King of all days Oh so highly exalted
Glorious in Heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth You created
All for love’s sake became poor

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that
You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that
You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that
You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me
Here I am to worship

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

Anthem: Living For Jesus

Children’s Moment & Song (Do Lord)

Verse 1

I’ve got a home in glory land
that outshines the sun.
I’ve got a home in glory land
that outshines the sun.
I’ve got a home in glory land
that outshines the sun;
Way beyond the blue.
Do, Lord, Oh do, Lord,
Oh do you remember me?
Do, Lord, Oh do, Lord,
Oh do you remember me?
Do, Lord, Oh do, Lord,
Oh do you remember me
Way beyond the blue

Verse 2

I took Jesus as my Savior,
you take him too.
I took Jesus as my Savior,
you take him too.
I took Jesus as my Savior,
you take him too;
Way beyond the blue.
Do, Lord, Oh do, Lord,
Oh do you remember me?
Do, Lord, Oh do, Lord,
Oh do you remember me?
Do, Lord, Oh do, Lord,
Oh do you remember me
Way beyond the blue

Prayer for Illumination
Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen.

New Testament Reading: Acts 4:32-35
32 Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common.

33 With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. 35 They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

Gospel Reading & Sermon Text:  Luke 24:1-12
1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared.

2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,3 but when they went in, they did not find the body. 4 While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them.

5 The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.

6 Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,7 that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.” 8 Then they remembered his words, 9 and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest.

10 Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.

12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened.

Closing Hymn: Trust and Obey…No. 467 (1&4)(F)

Verse 1

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Verse 4

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
