Song of Trust and Security in God

5 The LORD is my chosen portion
and my cup;
you hold my lot.

6 The boundary lines have
fallen for me in pleasant places;
I have a goodly heritage.

7 I bless the LORD, who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.

8 I keep the LORD always before me;
because he is at my right hand,
I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad,
and my soul rejoices;
my body also rests secure.

10 For you do not give me up to Sheol
or let your faithful one see the Pit.

11 You show me the path of life.
In your presence there is fullness of joy;
in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Praise the Lord

Opening Hymn: Thine Be the Glory…#308 (D)
Verse 1

Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son,
endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won;
angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
kept the folded grave-clothes where thy body lay.

Refrain:

Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son,
endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

Verse 2

Lo, Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb;
lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom;
let the church with gladness hymns of triumph sing,
for her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting:

Refrain:

Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son,
endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

Verse 3

No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of Life;
life is naught without thee: aid us in our strife;
make us more than conquerors through thy deathless love;
bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above:

Refrain:

Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son,
endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

Affirmation of Faith:
The Apostle’s Creed..No. 881

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified,
dead,
and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge
the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Gloria Patri…Page 70

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.

Praise Song: Up from the Grave He Arose (all vs)…#322

Low in the grave he lay, Jesus my Savior,
waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!
Up from the grave he arose,
with a mighty triumph o’er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Verse 2

Vainly they watch his bed, Jesus my Savior;
vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord!
Up from the grave he arose,
with a mighty triumph o’er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Verse 3

Death cannot keep its prey, Jesus my Savior;
he tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!
Up from the grave he arose,
with a mighty triumph o’er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

Anthem: Now the Green Blade Riseth…#311 (Em)

Children’s Moment
Children’s Song (Raise a Hallelujah)

Verse 1

I raise a hallelujah
in the presence of my enemies
I raise a hallelujah
louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah,
my weapon is a melody
I raise a hallelujah,
Heaven comes to fight for me

Chorus

I’m gonna sing in the middle of the storm
Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes hope will arise
Death is defeated, the King is alive

Verse 2

I raise a hallelujah
with everything inside of me
I raise a hallelujah,
I will watch the darkness flee
I raise a hallelujah
in the middle of the mystery
I raise a hallelujah,
fear, you lost your hold on me

Ending

I raise a hallelujah
I raise a hallelujah
I raise a hallelujah
I raise a hallelujah

Prayer for Illumination
Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 28:1-10
Proclaim the resurrection

1 After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.

3 His appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow. 4 For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men.

5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.”

8 So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples.

9 Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers and sisters to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

New Testament Reading:  Colossians 3:1-4
Raised with Christ

1 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3 for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Sermon Text:  Acts 10:34-43
Jesus’ ministry after his baptism

34 Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every people anyone who fears him and practices righteousness is acceptable to him.

36 You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ–he is Lord of all. 37 That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

39 We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, 40 but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead.

43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Closing Hymn He Lives (1,3)…#310 (Bb)

Verse 1

I serve a risen Savior, he’s in the world today;
I know that he is living,  whatever foes may say.
I see his hand of mercy,  I hear his voice of cheer,
and just the time I need him, he’s alway near.
He lives, (he lives)
he lives, (he lives)
Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me. and talks with me
along life’s narrow way.
He lives, (he lives)
he lives, (he lives)
salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know he lives?
He lives within my heart.

Verse 3

Rejoice, rejoice O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek him,  the help of all who find;
none other is so loving, so good and kind
He lives, (he lives)
he lives, (he lives)
Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me
along life’s narrow way.
He lives, (he lives)
he lives, (he lives)
salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know he lives?
He lives within my heart.
